Julie Gray Obituary

Julie Gray, 58, of Tempe, surprised her family and friends with her sudden and peaceful death on October 27, 2016. A genuinely happy person who enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, Julie was rich with longtime friendships and the love of family. Julie was born to Claudia and Dennis Gray in Lubbock, Texas on January 22, 1958. In 1973, with her mother and three sisters, she moved from Princeton, New Jersey to Tempe, Arizona. Julie made Arizona her home since then. In recent years she loved Arizona sunrises while sipping coffee on her patio, cheering Arizona teams (especially the Diamondbacks), and soaking up the Arizona heat. Simple pleasures! After a stroke in 1995, and a near brush with death at that time, Julie learned to live and navigate life from a wheelchair. Her sense of humor, resilience, independence and determination shaped her life. She made new friends everywhere she went, while maintaining and cherishing many friendships from over the years. And she always reserved a special place in her heart for her family. We have many memories of family times with much laughter. Julie, you are deeply loved as a daughter, sister, friend, and a dear family member. We miss you so much already! Julie is survived by her mother, Claudia; father Dennis (Brenda Martin) of San Diego, CA; sisters, Catherine “Coky” Gray (Barbara Nash), Sue (Billy) Coakley, Mindy Gray (Don Shepherd), and Amelia Martin; nephews John Putman (Christina French) and Brian Putman; Brother-in law, Johnny Putman; and many others including four great nephews, eleven cousins and five aunts. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, November 3 at Richardson Funeral Home, 2621 South Rural Rd. Tempe, AZ 85282.
