Carolyn Steppe Obituary

Our loving mother, Carolyn Hefler Steppe, age 79, passed away peacefully, Friday, September 25th, 2020 with her daughters by her side. She was born August 9, 1941 in Washington, New Jersey to Harold and Margaret Hefler. Carolyn graduated from The Eastman School of Music with a degree in Piano Performance and Education and earned her Master's in Piano Performance from Arizona State University. She completed her PhD qualification recital from Arizona State University. Carolyn was a renowned, sought after teacher and performer in the Arizona community for over 32 years, was a past president of the Arizona Music Teachers Association and a frequent adjudicator for the Guild and Study Programs, where she shared her passion for music. She was known for her incredible talent as a pianist for "she could play anything". It was a gift to all who heard her perform and her inspiring playing brought joy to those around her. She was an avid gardener and "green thumb" showing her beautiful roses at the Tucson rose society. Carolyn could turn a piece of dry land into lush beautiful gardens with her warm heart and love. She was beautiful, creative, and kind. She always smiled and was a joy to be around. Carolyn leaves behind, nothing but incredible memories that we will cherish, as the world was a better place because she was in it. She is survived by her brother Joe Helfer, (Rita), her two Daughters Sharon Garbus, (Elliot), Susan Di Chesere (Mark) and her three grandchildren (Caroline, Michael and David). A private family service will be held Friday at 1:00pm at All Faiths Cemetery, Tucson, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Arizona Animal Welfare League (awl.org). Richardson Funeral Home, Tempe, Arizona is compassionately serving the Steppe family.
