David Dunn Obituary

David James Dunn, 90, passed away on October 5, 2017 at his Arizona home. He was the son of the late John F. and Theresa (Banowitz) Dunn of Clinton, Iowa. He is survived by his sister Kathleen (Dunn) Schoening, children, Maureen (Paul) Morin, Mindy McNeal, Patrick Dunn, Matt Dunn, and DJ Dunn, grandchildren, Nick Morin, Tyler Dunn, Jon Morin, Alex Morin and Sam Morin, great grandchildren, Isla Bree, Dexter and Darcey Morin, Aaron and Rylee Dunn and many nieces and nephews. David was born and raised on a farm in Clinton, Iowa. He graduated from St. Mary’s High school at 16 and immediately joined the Navy. After serving in WW II, he attended Western Illinois University where he graduated in 1953. He met and married Elizabeth Ann (Schaum) Dunn when both were students at WIU. They were married at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rock Island, IL. They resided in Macomb, Illinois while the children were at home and then moved to Industry, Illinois for 10 years. They retired to Mesa, Arizona in 2003. “Dynamite” as he was affectionately called loved his WIU Leatherneck Team where he was captain during his senior year. He was installed in the Hall of Fame October 5, 1985. Dave served at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Macomb, Illinois as Parish Council President and was a 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus. Traveling on the road fed his wanderlust. Memorial services are being planned for a later date in Macomb, Illinois. There will also be a mass in January 2018 at his parish in Arizona. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dave’s name can be made to Western Illinois University Football, WIU Foundation, 1 University Circle, Sherman Hall 303, Macomb, IL 61455 (please put in Memoriam of David Dunn in the memo line) or to a charity of your choice. Thank you!
