David Medina Villapudua, Sr., 95, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2018. He was born December 31, 1922 in the village of El Naranjito in the Mexican state of Durango to Andrea Medina and Maximino Villapudua. David came to the United States in 1957 as a part of the bracero program, working in the fields of California and Arizona. He settled with his family in Yuma, Arizona before moving to Tempe in 1990. He was an avid gardener and tended to his rosebushes with the same care he bestowed upon his family. He was also a storyteller, musician, cook, and he was nearly unbeatable at cards. He will be remembered for his good humor, devotion to his family, and his resilience and perseverance through hard times. David is survived by his four children Ofelia, Blanca, David Jr., and John, his nine grandchildren Chelsea, Dania, Joseph, Stella, Santiago, Sebastian, Blanca, Julio, and Gerardo, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Rosario, his son José Manuel and his daughter Luisa. A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 15, 2018 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Richardson Funeral Home, 2621 South Rural Road, Tempe, Arizona. Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Monday, April 16, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 230 West Galveston Street, Chandler, Arizona. Interment will follow the funeral mass at approximately 11:30 am at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1500 East Baseline Road, Mesa, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in David's name be made to your preferred charity. Richardson Funeral Home, Tempe, Arizona is compassionately serving the family.
