Dr. John Xavier Evans (September 22, 1933 ~ December 1, 2018), scholar, professor, visionary, mentor, friend, a man for all seasons. Dr. Evans, known as "Jack" to his beloved wife, Rosie achieved his lifelong ambition of being a "good man." To those who loved and admired Dr. Evans, he was a great man. As a founding member of "Great Hearts" schools and "The Phoenix Institute," and an English Professor at Arizona State University, The University of Notre Dame, and Middlebury College, Dr. Evans influenced countless generations of students. Deeply spiritual, Dr. Evans attended daily mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish and was a coordinator in the "City of the Lord Catholic Charismatic Community." Devoted to his family, Jack leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Rosemarie, his son John Evans, his daughter Elizabeth Evans, grandchildren Alexandra Mullaney, Gabriella Ncube, Tyler Evans, and Zachary Evans. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with a Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:00 pm, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 2121 South Rural Road, Tempe, Arizona. Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 9:30 am also at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Interment will follow the funeral mass at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 2033 North 48th Street, Phoenix, Arizona. A reception will follow the interment at City of the Lord, 711 West University Dr, Tempe, Arizona.
