Eva Picone Obituary

Eva Gomez Picone, 84 of Tempe, Arizona passed away on May 28, 2017. Eva is now in the company of her Mom and Dad (Eloisa and Antolin Gomez), sisters Olga, Mary, and brother Tony, reveling in the family love that she knew growing up in Douglas, Arizona. Eva was born to Juan Inzunza and Mary Valencia in Tolleson, Arizona, and at the age of three went to live with her mom and dad in Douglas, Arizona. She attended Douglas Public Schools and excelled academically, graduating with honors. Utilizing her excellent secretarial skills, she worked at Fort Huachuca and other firms until she married Ben Picone, who she met in the eighth grade. They were married on January 24, 1955, and remained married for 62 years. Upon Ben's graduation from The University of Arizona, they moved to Tempe, where they settled into their home and remained there for 61 years. They raised six children; John, Diana (Herb Kai), Michelle (Mark Kittredge), David, Michael, and Eugene all of who graduated from Arizona State University (ASU). When the youngest, Eugene, was in middle school, Eva enrolled at ASU and graduated with a B.S. in Nursing in 1974. She worked at Good Samaritan Hospital for 3 years, and later became a health care screener performing employee wellness assessments at various firms throughout the West Coast and Midwest states. Eva firmly believed in higher education and challenging fields of study, a passion she passed onto her children. She was proud of their accomplishments which included degrees in Engineering, Nursing, and Business. Music was a big part of Eva's life, bringing her great joy, a joy she passed onto her children, inspiring their love of music. Eva loved to cook, sew, and paint landscapes using oils. She was starting to paint portraits. She painted one very nice piece, however she was unable to continue painting due to the effects of Alzheimer's disease. Eva loved our Lord Jesus Christ and Our Lady of Guadalupe. She belonged to the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Sodality Group as well as The Saint Vincent de Paul Society and the Our Lady of Guadalupe Rosary Group. Her infectious smile, laughter, and warm hugs will be missed by all who knew her. Eva is also survived by one brother, Ralph Gillmore, 13 grandchildren: Ryan Picone, Steven Picone, Craig Picone, Amy Picone, Leslie Kittredge, Spencer Kittredge, Nicholas Kittredge, Maria Picone, Madison Kai, Ben Picone, Zachary Picone, Matthew Picone, Julie Picone, and one great-grandson, Luciano Picone.
