Florence DiStasi

Florence “Cissie” DiStasi, age 74, passed away on January 22, 2019. She was born on December 22, 1944 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Florence moved to Arizona with her family when she was nine years old and spent the rest of her life in the Phoenix area. She attended Kenilworth Elementary School and West High School. Florence worked for many years in the airline industry, first for Hughes Airwest, then for Republic Airlines and finally for Northwest Airlines. She later worked for a major hotel chain in Human Resources and as an insurance agent before retiring in 2014. After retirement, her daughter thought she might want to get a part-time job to keep her busy. Florence had other ideas though. She wanted to sleep-in, watch crime shows on TV and then pick up her grandchildren at school and give them sugary treats before sending them home to bounce off the walls.

Florence was a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She had the best a sense of humor, was a great dancer, an expert kazoo player and was a wonderful cook (especially chicken and noodles). She was incredibly smart and whenever games were played at family parties, everyone wanted her on their team because she was sure to be on the winning side!

Florence was preceded in death by her mother, Florence and father John; brothers Bill, John and Dick; and sisters Jean, Rosie and Susie. She is survived by her daughter Catherine, son-in-law Jeff, grandchildren Stephen and Madelyn; and many family and friends who will miss her very much.

The family would like to thank the all of the doctors, nurses and other medical professionals who took such good care of her over the last few years. The care and compassion demonstrated by each of them will never be forgotten.

Florence’s Memorial Service will be held on February 16th at 11:00 a.m. at Desert Cross Lutheran Church (8600 S. McClintock Dr., Tempe, AZ 85284). A lunch reception at her daughter’s home will immediately follow the service. One of Florence’s favorite dishes, cheese enchiladas, will be on the menu. All family and friends are welcome to attend.
