Mary Helen Schultz

Mary Helen Escalante Schultz went to heaven on Friday, December 6th in the comfort of her home, surrounded by loved ones. She was born to Ramon and Josefina Escalante in Oakland California on Saturday, October 25th 1952 where she spent the first 8 years of her life. At the age of 8 her father brought her and her family to Arizona, where she lived out the rest of her years. According to her father "Maria was a good child and did not give him any trouble." At 16 she graduated from McClintock High School and left for College in Chicago. After returning to Arizona, Maria became a Drug Counselor, visiting all of the High Schools to promote drug prevention. She later became a Teacher at Flora Thew Elementary School. In the 80's she opened up her own business, Maria Escalante's Compañia de Tamales. Fulfilling a lifelong dream of her father's where they worked hand and hand. Later, she would continue her beautiful Mothers legacy. Maria also volunteered during elections, was a Bartender and wrote a few songs. Maria Escalante was full of life and laughter! Best known for being "tough" in a "I don't take no "$#!^" from anyone" kind of way. Encouraging strength in those who knew her. She was funny, inspiring and you could always count on her to "give it to you straight" when coming for advice. She was strong, fierce, and just as bold as she was beautiful. A true woman of integrity. A good daughter, Mother, favorite Tia, mentor, advisor and friend. She is survived by her son Michael Marcello Hernandez, daughter Iris Tula Schultz, beautiful granddaughters Briana Monique Hernandez, Dezja Nikol Schultz and Ciana Unique Hernandez. Along with cousins, nieces and nephews who all loved her dearly. A visitation will be held on Thursday, December, 26th, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with a Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 pm, at Richardson Funeral Home, 2621 South Rural Rd, Tempe, Arizona. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, December, 27, 2019 at 9:30 am at Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 2121 S Rural Road, Tempe, Arizona. Interment will immediately follow the funeral mass at Queen Of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 1500 East Baseline Road, Mesa, Arizona.
