Peggy Sue Nichols, 88 of Tucson Arizona, entered into peace Thursday, July 25 in Phoenix Arizona, with both of her daughters by her side. She died of complications from Alzheimer’s. Peggy was born in Clearmont Missouri on April 14, 1931 to Oakley Everett and Aeva Emma (Pruitt) Kinder, the youngest of 4 children (Alyce Isabelle, BH, Aeva Lee), and 1 half-brother (Bill Perry) all of whom preceded her in death. She was married to James Tompkins in 1948. They had one son, Mike Tompkins, Clearmont, Missouri (deceased in 2015) and 2 daughters, Susan Horel, Phoenix Arizona, and Jane Tompkins, Fairway Kansas. As well, she had 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Peggy and Jim raised their family on farms near College Springs and Braddyville, Iowa until Jim’s death in 1969. She then moved to Clarinda Iowa and worked retail in both Livingston’s and Schoenberg’s Clothing Stores. In 1981 she married Dr. C.E. Nichols. They spent winters in Arizona before his death in 1984. Peggy moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1986 and continued working in retail (clothing and jewelry) until she was 81. She seldom sat still and enjoyed many activities, whether on the farm and later in Tucson. She enjoyed her daily walks and shared her passion for golf and dancing with her significant other, Bill, for the last 28 years. Mrs. Nichols was cremated after a private family gathering. Richardson Funeral Home, Tempe, Arizona is compassionately serving the family. To leave a special message for the family online, visit https://www.richardsonfuneralhome.org
