Robert “Bob” Kennedy died peacefully after a short illness on September 13, 2017, in Chandler, Arizona, at Hospice of the Valley-Dobson Home, at the age of 76.

Robert is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Jeff (Carla) Kennedy, Houston, TX; Karin Clement, Prescott Valley, AZ; Theresa Menke, Phoenix, AZ; Kim Kennedy, Phoenix, AZ; Robert (Sabrina) Kennedy, Jr., Terre Haute, IN; Tom (Sarah) Kennedy, Austin, TX; siblings, Dean (Pam) Kennedy, Terre Haute, IN. He is preceded in death by his parents Dewey and Maxine (Hastings) Kennedy, Gowrie, IA, and brother Chuck Kennedy, Fort Dodge, IA.

Robert was born on December 29, 1940, in Indianola, IA, to Dewey and Maxine Kennedy. He graduated from Indianola High School in 1956. He married Barbara Belmer on March 18, 1960. After moving to Fort Dodge, Robert began working for Hormel and owned and operated Kennedy Auto and Speed Accessories. Over ten years the couple welcomed six children into their home and Robert set about teaching them there are no strangers, only friends you haven’t met. His children remember him as a gentle but driven father who encouraged them to be pursue their goals.

Robert was accomplished at building and designing race cars and high performance engines and often mentored others. He was a generous individual who loved helping others and was passionate about drag racing.

A funeral is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on September 16, 2017, at Richardson Funeral Home, 2621, S. Rural Road, Tempe, Arizona, with a lunch reception to follow at Foothills Golf Club, 2201 E. Clubhouse Drive, Phoenix, Arizona. Pastor Rowdy Van Horn will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Robert’s life.
