Shanta Patel

Shanta Patel, 91 of Phoenix, Arizona passed away at her home on September 18, 2017 surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was born in Sankheda, India on March 29, 1926, daughter of Dr. Dadabhai Patel, a well-respected doctor and politician whose leadership and contributions were spread among family and friends; and Gangaben Patel, a loving and devoted mother and homemaker. As a child, our Dadi admired her father's importance on what would now be considered "modern thoughts." Her father believed in the power of education and knowledge. In fact, Dr. Dadabhai challenged the norms of women's education of the time, and sent our Dadi to Baroda College, where she graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts in Psychology. He also instilled in her the deep need to help those less fortunate- a trait she spread throughout her family. In 1950, she married Chandrakant Patel and shared a loving partnership with our wonderful Dada. In our Dadi's beautiful 91 years, she held many roles to many people - she was a sister to three brothers and two sisters; a wife to a devoted husband; mother to four children; grandmother to nine children, and great grandmother to two grandchildren. Dadi spent most of her time and energy towards her family, instilling qualities of love, devotion, kindness, strength, and spirituality to all of her family. Dadi was a beautiful soul, whose faith in the divine, brought hope, love, and security to all who knew her. To our loving Dadi, thank you for teaching us through example, how to live life with courage, love, and compassion. We love you Dadi, and will honor your memory by taking your teachings forward to the next generation of our family. A memorial service will be held in celebration of her life on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 8:00 AM at Richardson Funeral Home, 2621 South Rural Road, Tempe, Arizona.
