Archie Underwood

Archie Underwood, 79 of Phoenix, Arizona passed away peacefully on Friday, July 7, 2017 at his home. He was born on October 6, 1937 the son of Luvertis Underwood and Bertha King in Eutaw, Alabama. He was a devoted husband and father. Archie is survived by his wife, Angela Underwood, his 7 children, Gwenever (Robert) Boyd, Arthur (Macara) Underwood, Latrisha (Phillip) Patterson, Anthony Underwood, Archie Underwood Jr, Amelia (Cardin) Towns, and Andrea (Rock) Underwood, 24 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren, seven sisters, three brothers, and many nieces and nephews. Archie was well-known for his love of fishing, hunting, and horses. He enjoyed volunteering and working at the local parks and recreation centers in Los Angeles, California and became a beloved coach and mentor to many young athletes. Baseball, basketball, and football were his favorite sports. Archie relocated to Phoenix, Arizona to live near his children and grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 from 5:00pm to 9:00 PM, with a reading of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM at Richardson Funeral Home, 2621 South Rural Road, Tempe, Arizona. Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 2121 South Rural Road, Tempe, Arizona. Cremation will follow the funeral mass and interment of Archie's cremated remains will take place at a later date at St. Francis Cemetery, Phoenix, Arizona. Richardson Funeral Home, Tempe, Arizona is compassionately serving the family.
