Donna Marie Montalvo died peacefully on January 28, 2021 at her home. She was born January 11, 1930 in La Crosse, Wisconsin to George and Edna Bigley and was the eldest of eight. Their home was often filled with pranks, giggles, and laughter. In 1950 she moved from La Crosse to San Diego, CA where she met and married her beloved husband Gus Montalvo while working at Convair Aircraft. They were together for 68 years.
They shared a love for travel and upon their retirement traveled the country in their fifth-wheel trailer collecting memories of the places they visited and the people they met. Those who crossed their path became a friend. To commemorate their travels, they collected beautiful small rocks and marked them of the locations they visited and scattered them in their backyard. They also explored the wonders of the Arizona landscape and enjoyed life and each other’s company.
We remember Donna as a very pretty women and when she dressed for special occasions, she looked elegant.
She loved her family and was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, and grandmother. She got up every morning and provided her family with breakfast, a good lunch and ended the day with a homecooked meal. Her love of cooking extended to hosting memorable dinners and parties for many friends and family. There was always room at the table for one more.
At Christmas time the house would be filled with the smell of cookies from recipes handed down from previous generations. She warmed our family and new babies with crocheted blankets. She took pride in working for Dillard’s as their Southwest Bridal Director. She was a devout Catholic and became a eucharistic minister and attended church every morning.
Donna is survived by her husband Gus Montalvo, daughters Mary Montalvo, Barbara Mason (Terry), and Kathleen Montalvo. Grandchildren, Jess Mason (Kelly), Courtney Mason, Samara Miller, Shane Miller (Toi), and Damien Miller; Great Grandchildren, Josuae, Aiden and Teagan Miller. She was preceded in death by her sons Mark and Brian Montalvo.
Donna lived a long, loving and richly rewarding life and will be greatly missed.
