Doris “Lorraine” Webber, 94 of Tempe, AZ passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at Friendship Village retirement center. Formerly of St. Joseph, Lorraine had been a resident at Friendship Village since 2018. She was born November 15, 1927, in Mechanicsville, Iowa, the daughter of the late Frank M. and Nellie (Robinson) Thomson.
Lorraine taught English and Home Economics for 42 years in both the Bridgman and St. Joseph, Michigan school districts. She retired from St. Joseph Public Schools in 1991 after 24 years.
Lorraine was an avid reader, loving mother and lifelong learner, who enjoyed traveling, attending the theater, symphony and other community events. She enjoyed her cats, garden flowers and watching her alma mater, Iowa State. She was also enthusiastic about going to the Y for her workouts three times a week with many good friends. Anyone who knew her, knew she loved to chat and would never turn down chocolate, a good book or a glass of wine. Her greatest passion was for her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include her three children, Marcia (Ross) Reck of Tempe, AZ; Carol (Doug) Summersgill of Chandler, AZ; and Kristin Webber of Baroda, MI; She cherished her grandchildren, Katie (Dave) Laurino, Nancy (Yong) Lee, Chris, Andy and Sally Summersgill, and great grandchildren Luke and Mia Laurino, and Noah Lee.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Gene Nielsen in 1955, her second husband, Wayne Webber in 2009, and her grandson, Philip Reck in 2014.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date in St. Joseph. The family is grateful for the wonderful care and comfort provided by the Friendship Village staff and Hospice of the Valley.
