Dorothy Marie Cross

Dorothy Marie Cross, age 75, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2020 of natural causes. She was born July 16, 1945 in Louisiana to her beloved mother Mary Threshia Walker. Dorothy loved to love on people as she had such a big heart. She was nurturing and caring to anyone that was close to her. She cherished spending every day with her sister Beatrice and talking on the phone to her best friend Mary Ann. She enjoyed shopping, decorating, sewing and singing to her favorite songs. Her children and grandchildren were always her pride and joy. No day was complete without checking on them. Dorothy was particular about the cleanliness of her home and most prized possessions. She collected elephants that were carefully showcased throughout her home. She was also known for her elegance as she could always be seen as a stylish and classy woman that required every outfit to have a touch of bling. As a faithful servant of the Lord, Dorothy was an ordained licensed minister of the gospel. She was an honorary member of Glory House International Church for the last twenty years and enjoyed serving in the ministry as a greeter and minister. She adored the members of Glory House International Church and greeting them on Sunday was the highlight of every week. For many years Dorothy worked for the State of Arizona in the Child Support Division and Department of Economic Security as a case manager. Her job with the State of Arizona suited her servant heart. She enjoyed helping the single mothers and families with the resources they needed to survive in life. She was always the last employee to leave and the first to arrive every day in the office. She believed in doing what was right and being kind to others. She retired from the State of Arizona in March 2014. Her life was a living example of the scripture, Proverbs 31:25 – “Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. “ Dorothy is survived by her sisters, Beatrice Nelson and Diane Butler; three sons Whitford Cross, Corie Cross and James Cross, Jr.; daughter and husband, Renita and Michael Wright; grandchildren, Briana Wright, Whitford Cross, Jr., Marcell Wright, Tamia Garcia, Jiszelle Cross and Jalen Cross; plus her beloved nephews, nieces and close friends that she considered family. Please join us in celebrating her life on Thursday, August 13, 2020 at 10:00 am for the viewing and 11:00 am for the service at Glory House International Church, 1731 W. Baseline Rd #109, Mesa, AZ 85202. Burial will immediately follow at Paradise Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Scottsdale, Arizona.
