Lois Brothers Obituary

Lois Rae Brothers passed away peacefully on January 29th, 2021 at the age of 86 at her residence in Chandler AZ. She was born on May 17, 1934 in Highland Park, IL to Cleo and Raymond A. Limberg. She was preceded in death by her husband Bruce M. Brothers in 1986 and her eldest son Bruce R. Brothers (Rod) in 2019. Lois is survived by her sons Tom(Christa), Bill (Shelly), daughter-in-law Maria, grandchildren Scott (Abbie), Mariah and Madison, great granddaughters Annie and Lola, her brother Barry Williams, and her nieces and nephew. She also leaves behind many dear friends, including her Alpha Gamma Delta sisters. She was a courageous lady, and a pioneer of sorts, who defied convention to earn a degree in microbiology in 1956 from University of Illinois. Lois would forever be a proud and devoted Illini, as her time at Illinois brought Bruce into her life and her Alpha Gamma Delta sorority sisters who would remain lifelong friends. Lois met the love of her life and future Illinois HS Basketball Hall of Famer Bruce on campus, and they married shortly after their graduation, started a family, and eventually laid down roots in Mt. Prospect, where they would raise their three boys. Raising three active boys and having a career as a microbiologist at MetPath Laboratories kept Lois busy, but she always sought out ways to do more in the community. She was PTA President at the boys’ school, served as Director for PADS food bank at St. Marks Lutheran Church, sat on the Mt. Prospect Zoning Board for 15 years, worked on the Carolyn Kraus Mayoral campaign, was a Board Member for the Illinois Society for Microbiology, served on the leadership team for Shepard of the Prairie in Huntley, and so much more. But she always had time for her family. Lois had an amazing sense of humor, honed over the years by the crazy antics of her sons as well as her own marvelous and zany adventures. She was quick to laugh at herself and provided the family with so many wonderful stories and memories to hold on to. She loved playing golf, gardening, and giving back to the community. But she loved God and her family the most. She was truly one of a kind, and she will be missed very much. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 10th, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd. at Northwest Highway, Mount Prospect, Illinois. Interment will immediately follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 2501 E Euclid Ave, Arlington Heights, Illinois. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to a charitable organization that is meaningful for you, as that is what Lois would have wanted. Richardson Funeral Home, Tempe, Arizona and Friedrichs Funeral Home, Mount Prospect, Illinois are each compassionately serving the Brothers family.
