Shirley Sullivan Obituary

Shirley Jeannine (Curtis) Sullivan  “Shirl The Pearl”

Shirley Jeannine Sullivan (87) was born on October 30,1934 and entered eternal life on July 20, 2022 at Banner Desert Hospital in Mesa, AZ with her youngest daughter Therese by her side. Shirley was born in Kansas City, Mo., and lived with her parents Hazel (Dresselhaus) and Elmer Curtis and siblings JoSusan, Jackie and John in Topeka Kansas. Shirley earned her college education at Washburn University and the University of Kansas. She was a Physical Therapist for 55 years until she retired at the age of 80 in 2015. She converted to the Catholic Faith in 1960 and married Richard David Sullivan in 1961 at St Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Los Angeles, Ca. Shirley was deeply devoted to God and the Catholic Faith. She attended daily Mass and spent most of her days in prayer, especially in her final years. She will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren, Peter Sullivan and Ari Ginsburg, Paul Sullivan, Kara Wagner Sullivan, Joseph and Nancy Sullivan, Mary and Ricky Lockhart (Zackrey Miles), Fr. Philip Sullivan O.C.D. and Therese and Dan Routhier (Kayla Geneanne and Trevré Guy) as well as her beloved nephew Eric Newberger and his wife Julianne. Shirley’s family on earth expanded greatly when her son, Fr. Philip joined the Discalced Carmelite Order and became a Priest. She has many close friends among the Discalced Carmelite Friars and Nuns and the family is ever grateful for their friendship, prayers and support. Shirley lived her life with intention to promote God’s heavenly kingdom through service and prayer. She was generous and kind to all. Her common prayers were “Lord, help me to be an instrument of your abundance” and “Create in me a clean heart O Lord.” Shirley and Richard (10/8/29-2/21/06) will be interred together in the Discalced Carmelite section of Our Lady Queen Of Peace Catholic Cemetery in Colton, Ca. The family wishes to thank you for your friendship with our beloved mother and for your prayers in the coming days
