Sing-fun Nieman passed away on July 12, 2020, due to pneumonia while recovering from surgery for a melanoma tumor on her spine. She is survived by her husband, John Nieman, daughters, Helen E. Nieman and Michelle J. Nieman, and sister, I-Sheng Chang. Loyal friend and mentor to countless others. She was loved dearly and all who met her will never forget her tenacity, grace, intensity, charm, and powerful love. Sing-fun was born in Taipei, Taiwan on July 25, 1954. She received her bachelors degree in microbiology from Taiwan Normal University and taught high school in Taipei. She moved to the United States to attend Texas A&M University and received a masters degree in computer science. She stayed in the United States and worked as a systems analyst and project manager. She married John Nieman on September 13, 1986, and later became a US citizen. Those who were touched by her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Sing-fun was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. In 1999, she retired and devoted her time to ensuring the well-being of her family. She had a vivacious personality and always put her daughters first. She engaged everyone everywhere she went, close to home and on her globe-trotting adventures. Her humor was surprising and her love of life unmatched. Until her health made it impossible, she traveled the world with her family, exploring new cultures and expanding her influence.
“Sing-fun's intelligence and love of family were so strong and deep that it was difficult to for me to comprehend. She was always 10 steps ahead of my thoughts. I pray that I do not flounder without her guidance.” – John Nieman
“She was the strongest and smartest woman ever. She wasn’t afraid of anyone or anything. She was a fireball everywhere she went. She was and continues to be my azimuth. No one can possibly compare.” – Helen E. Nieman
“Although she boasted of being the 'Wicked Witch of the East', her strict instruction was from her tremendous love for her family.” – Michelle J. Nieman
